General Description

Itraconazole is an antifungal drug effective against most fungal infections. Itraconazole was produced to improve upon Ketoconazole to reduce the number of side effects and effectiveness for certain types of infections.

How It Works

Itraconazole works by inhibiting the enzymes that make ergosterol, a key component in the fungal cell wall. This causes the fungus to be structurally inadequate so that it leaks and dies.

Storage Information

Store in a tightly sealed container at room temperature and protected from heat or light.

Missed Dose?

Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give the pet two doses at once.

Side Effects and Drug Reactions

Itraconazole may result in these side effects:

  • Swelling of the limbs
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy

  • Antidiabetics
  • Aminophylline
  • Cisapride
  • Cyclosporine
  • Digoxin
  • Phenytoin sodium
  • Rifampin
  • H2 Blockers
  • Antacids
     

DO NOT GIVE ITRACONAZOLE TO PREGNANT PETS
