Budweiser’s ‘Puppy Love’ Super Bowl Commercial Pulls on Your Heart Strings

It just wouldn’t be a Super Bowl without the TV commercials, and this year Budweiser has decided to go for heartfelt emotions rather than laughter in at least one ad.

Budweiser’s Super Bowl XLVIII commercial “Puppy Love” demonstrates how even a little puppy and a gigantic Clydesdale can strike up a lasting friendship.

It features what looks to be a Golden Retriever puppy from an animal shelter that befriends a Clydesdale horse stalled at a ranch next door. Each time the puppy escapes from the shelter to visit his Clydesdale pal, the horse’s owner returns the dog.

The Super Bowl commercial seems to end on a sad note when the love-struck puppy is finally adopted, but is suddenly “rescued” by his Clydesdale friends which block the dirt road exit. The puppy has found a new adopted family at the Clydesdale ranch.

To add even more emotion to the Super Bowl commercial, Budweiser’s creative agency Anomaly (which also developed last year’s Brotherhood ad featuring a Clydesdale seen below) chose “Let Her Go” by Passenger as the sentimental music for the ad.
