21% Protein Dog Food in 40 pound bags is being voluntarily recalled by Petrus Feed and Seed Stores, Inc. The corn the product was manufactured with tested above the acceptable levels of Aflatoxin.
Aflatoxin is a mold by-product that occurs naturally. It can cause sluggishness or lethargy in pets, combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, and diarrhea. Pets who have consumed any of the affected products and exhibit these symptoms should be seen by a veterinarian immediately.
The recall is only applicable to 21% Dog Food, packaged in 40 pound Petrus Feed bags, with packaging codes 4K1011 through 4K1335. The affected products were manufactured in Cargill’s facility in LeCompte, Louisiana, between December 1, 2010 and December 1, 2011. The affected products were only distributed in Petrus Feed and Seed in Alexandria, Louisiana.
This recall is a precautionary measure, implemented by Petrus Feed and Seed Store. No adverse health effects have been reported.
