It’s Wednesday and we know what that means -- it means it’s dog time! Some of you may argue that any time is time for the dogs and we know many dogs that would whole-heartedly agree with you.
On this warm Wednesday, we figured it was time to introduce you to some fine Internet dog celebrities.
Stains the dog is an Australian Shepherd that found stardom on It’s Me Or the Dog, an Animal Planet television show.
Stains, you see, has the most hypnotic eyes ever, and when being trained to back off with a tray of delicious looking cupcakes, Stains failed. Instead, he did what you and I would do, and that’s follow the cupcakes ... with eyes that tried to lift them off the plate and into his tummy!
Since then, Stains has become an Internet sensation. He is very popular on YouTube and has his own Web site, both of which are chock-full of funny video clips. You can even buy "official" Stains T-shirts on the site.
Stains also won entertainer of the year on The Soup, where his prize was not some boring trophy, but a plate of doggy cupcakes. He ate them all up …
#2 Shiba Inu 6
These six little purebred Shiba Inu puppies became an Internet sensation and melted many a heart (including the stony and cold kind) when they starred in their own reality show just after they were born.
Their owners (or rather the owners of their mother) set up a Web cam so people could watch the puppies as they grew. What happened instead was a phenomenon that took the world by storm.
They became famous for being gorgeous and cute, which is, when you think about it, not that much different than many Hollywood starlets claim to fame.
Alas, their Web cam is no more, as they all grew up enough to move to their new homes. But, their memories certainly live on in the hallowed pages of the Internet.
#1 Mysterious Rescue Dog
In December 2008, on a highway in Chile, surveillance video of an amazing sight was captured and later uploaded to YouTube.
Shortly after a dog had been hit by a car on a busy highway, a mysterious yet heroic canine dashed out in front of traffic (no one stopped!) and dragged the injured mutt to the median strip.
Unfortunately, sources have differed on whether the injured dog survived or not. But no one knows the identity of the brave hero, either.
He ran away afterwards, even as thousands of offers poured forth from people wanting to adopt him. Some believe he was a stray, but whatever he was, he certainly deserves his Internet fame, and more …
So there you have it. Three stories of dogs made famous on the Internet.
Woof! It’s Wednesday.
