When it comes to saving the environment, it’s up to each and every one of us to do our bit. But our dogs? We're sure if they were able to, they would make an effort, but since they can’t, it’s our responsibility. So, what can you do to “green” your dog? Luckily it’s much easier and less effort than you think.
#4 Go Au Naturel
When it comes to his clothes and bedding, go for recycled or natural material bedding and clothes, or try recycling old clothes of yours into bedding. It's soft and may even remind your dog of your sweet scent.
#3 Ditch the Doggy Bags
Instead of buying doggy bags, why not reuse your grocery bags? Or, check out the biodegradable or recycled doggy bags that are available. Just don't train your dog to “go” on your annoying neighbor's lawn. That's not being “green.”
#2 Ride the New Wave
With the weather getting warmer, more and more people are taking their dogs with them wherever they go, and the walks are getting longer. But are dog owners keeping their furry friends properly hydrated? Sure, it's easy to just use something disposable -- a bowl you can throw out after your dog has had his fill of water or food. But instead of creating more waste for the landfill, why not go all new wave? There are some great dishes out there that you can pop into a special doggy bag and take with you, and reuse them. Or, if you don’t want to lug about a bag, there are special collapsible dishes. There are even dishes made from recycled materials that are also biodegradable.
#1 Share the Hippiness
An easy way to get Fido in on the act is with her toys and snacks. Organic toys are all the rage and they have the added benefit of being not only “green,” but much better for your dog. Plus, giving your dog quality treats will make her healthier, which means you’ll cut down on vet visits.
So now you have some building blocks for a trendy, “green” dog.
Woof! It’s Wednesday.
