A. Pet stores often buy from puppy mills, where the parent dogs are kept in cages their whole lives for the sole purpose of cranking out babies. They are often poorly bred, with congenital malformations and conditions because the quality of the breed is not why they are being bred, they are being bred for profit. If you want a purebred dog, buy from a reputable breeder, or better yet, adopt a dog from a breed rescue. If breed doesn't matter, adopt a shelter dog and save a life.
