Pimobendan is used to give dogs with congestive heart disease and failure a longer life. It helps the heart do it’s job more efficiently by opening up the blood vessels leading to and from your pet’s heart.
Pimobendan is best to give this drug to a pet with an empty stomach. It is typically given twice a day at even intervals (every 12 hours).
Pimobendan works by inhibiting the function of phosphodiesterase. This results in opened blood vessels leading to decreased blood pressure and less work for the heart. Pimobendan also increases the sensitivity of the proteins in the heart to calcium, improving it’s ability to strongly and more effectively contract.
Keep in a tightly sealed container at room temperature.
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give your pet two doses at once.
Use with extreme caution and only with the recommendation of an experienced veterinarian. Pimobendan has not been extensively researched in dogs with diabetes, heart defects, or puppies under 6 months.
