A. Although they say advantage is waterproof that is not my experience. If your cat needs a bath my recommendation is to switch to an oral flea medication such as comfortis. If you stay with advantage I would bathe your cat and then wait 48 hours before you apply it. The hardest thing about fleas is getting them out of the environment. They will continue to hatch every 2 to 3 weeks from whatever substrate they're living on in your home. So not only do you need to treat the cat but you need to deep clean your home wash materials in super hot water and vacuum constantly. Your veterinarian can prescribe a steroid to help reduce itching for a short period of time. This will not fix the problem but it certainly will make your cat more comfortable. These things take time unfortunately so be patient. Also, you can safely redose any flea medication at three weeks instead of four.
