Q. I have a 7yr old male chocolate lab who has round bumps under the skins by the rib cage what could this be

A. These kind of lumps ideally would need to be tested either through a fine needle aspiration (aspirate with a fine needle some cells and analyze them)or through a biopsy (more invasive and require general anesthetic). Very commonly these lumps are lipomas (benign fat cells tumors) that do not need any kind of treatment unless they are getting of considerable size; in that case surgical excision could be performed.

I would recommend to take him to your veterinarian as only by feeling them in the consultation room your vet can give you more informations about these lumps and suggest the most appropriate course of action.
