A. If it is too painful for him to let you wash it you should take him to the clinic to get it examined, he may need sedation to fully assess what is going on, particularly if he is lame also. If he is not limping, you could try soaking his foot in warm water with a little antiseptic or dog shampoo in it for 5minutes to see if it loosens out; monitor to see if it is something he walked in or if it is coming from inside his foot such as from an abscess which would require medical treatment by your vet.
